Sports Medicine and Exercise Science

Instructors: Dr. Mohr

Demand has grown for qualified people in the fitness and wellness field. The Sports Technician & Exercise Science Program focuses on various aspects of sports medicine and exercise science, including the components of wellness, fitness assessment, and proper design of customized conditioning programs. Students also learn and demonstrate the skills necessary to work as aides in rehabilitation or sports medicine.

In the senior year, students may experience a variety of internships and career experiences where they must apply academic and practical knowledge in the clinical setting; placement is based on interest, classroom performance and career goals, and may include such settings as:

· Area athletic clubs
· Sports medicine treatment centers
· Chiropractic practices
· Rehabilitation centers
· Orthopedic offices
· Nutritionist’s office
· Occupational therapy centers
· Student athletic training with teams
· HTHS weight room

Students who successfully complete the classroom and practical experiences will have the necessary background to obtain Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor certification (must be 18 years of age). Students are also well prepared to continue their education at the college level.
